Seed Treatment: Insecticides & Fungicides
What is Seed Treatment
Agriculture relies on seed growth, the pivotal first stage in a crop's lifecycle. Failed seed germination leads to crop failure, as seeds combat diseases, pests, and environmental stresses. Seed enhancement boosts success rates, with seed treatment being a potent method. This involves applying biological, physical, and chemical agents to shield seeds. It fosters healthy crops, bolsters immunity, and ensures uniform germination. Unlike broad crop protection methods, seed treatment tailors to individual seed needs, enhancing resistance to pests and environmental stress. Chemical or biological seed treatments can provide critical protection since the germination stage, protecting the emergence out of the soil and during the first stage of the crop cycle by preventing seeds against soil-borne pathogens, seed-borne insects, diseases, and pests.
Seed Treatment Fungicides
This protection method controls fungal diseases like smuts, rots, or seedling blights. Seed treatment fungicides don’t protect the crops throughout all plant growth stages but help them establish faster.
There are several types of fungicide seed treatment depending on its purpose and pathogen presence:
Disinfection kills already penetrated pathogens that caused infections;
Disinfestation controls microbes on the planting material surface;
Protection prevents pathogen presence and further infection.
Seed Treatment Insecticides
This treatment method tackles insect infestations and protects the planting material from the damage they make.
Specific insecticides are often effective against specific pests, so chemical mixtures or compounds can kill more insect species. However, it is important to observe chemicals compatibility, sequence, and caution measures, and never consume treated material as human or livestock food.
